Based on Verigoat's one for the CPL. Feel free to comment and critique my selections. 1. Jabba - Lance Franklin 2. Brett - Scott Pendlebury 3. Morgie - Gary Ablett jr 4. Paulfromoz - Trent Cotchin 5. Nino - Joel Selwood 6. Jager - Patrick Dangerfield 7. Theo - Dane Swan 8. Harps - Marc Murphy 9. Diggler - Jobe Watson 10. Jimmy_C8 - Josh P. Kennedy 11. Shagger - Tom Hawkins 12. Skippos - Nic Naitanui 13. Benny - Matthew Pavlich 14. Mousey/Teacups - Harry Taylor 15. MightyPies/Heef - Scott Selwood 16. Masters - Sam Mitchell Best: Well, everyone really got a good pick. The best two picks you could've made were Ablett and Franklin, and unsurprisingly they went in the top three. Worst: Selwood. Harsh given he's still fairly young and won a B&F last year, but there were probably better players at the time. Pavlich was also an interesting one due to his age, but his ability and his position counteracts that I feel.
Round 2: 17. Masters - Scott Thompson (Adelaide) 18. MightyPies/Heef - Jack Riewoldt 19. Mousey/Teacups - Dayne Beams 20. Benny - Chris Judd 21. Skippos - Nat Fyfe 22. Shagger - Luke Hodge 23. Jimmy_c8 - Travis Cloke 24. Diggler - Taylor Walker 25. Harps - Andrew Swallow 26. Theo - Kurt Tippett 27. Jager - Cyril Rioli 28. Nino - Nick Riewoldt 29. Oz - Joshua J. Kennedy 30. Morgie - Bryce Gibbs 31. Brett - Drew Petrie 32. Jabba - Jarryd Roughead Best: Tough, but probably Beams. Here, we have a B&F winner, All-Australian winner and a top 10 Brownlow placing who's in his early 20's. He's a first-round pick yet he made the second round. Honorable mention to Walker, who's also pretty young yet is already one of the competition's premier full-forwards. Worst: Again, a tough one, but lean Riewoldt. Just doesn't feel like the same player that he was. Yeah he's good, but you'd be better off picking up a younger player.
Gonna joint hijack this thread Round 1 Code: 1. Jabba - Lance Franklin 2. Brett - Scott Pendlebury 3. Morgie - Gary Ablett jr 4. Paulfromoz - Trent Cotchin 5. Nino - Joel Selwood 6. Jager - Patrick Dangerfield 7. Theo - Dane Swan 8. Harps - Marc Murphy 9. Diggler - Jobe Watson 10. Jimmy_C8 - Josh P. Kennedy 11. Shagger - Tom Hawkins 12. Skippos - Nic Naitanui 13. Benny - Matthew Pavlich 14. Mousey/Teacups - Harry Taylor 15. MightyPies/Heef - Scott Selwood 16. Masters - Sam Mitchell Best Pick: Ablett Jnr @3 - Morgie: Getting the best player in the comp at number three is fantastic work Every other pick not mentioned below was to be expected. Naitanui and Hawkins have potentials to be steals but not yet. Worst Picks: Pavlich @13 - Benny: Plenty of great key forwards left and Benny's gone with an ageing one, and one that's not in the top 3-4 anymore S. Selwood @15 - Heef: He's a good player but it's jumping the gun especially with Beams, Fyfe and Swallow left. This CPL will update ratings with the progression of players and with the return of Kerr & Rosa and emergence of Gaff and inclusion of Wellingham, one can't help but assume he'll be tagging more often which will only hurt him HM goes to Mitchell @ 16 who's neither an elite mid nor the age to make it worthwhile
Round 2 Code: 17. Masters - Scott Thompson (Adelaide) 18. MightyPies/Heef - Jack Riewoldt 19. Mousey/Teacups - Dayne Beams 20. Benny - Chris Judd 21. Skippos - Nat Fyfe 22. Shagger - Luke Hodge 23. Jimmy_c8 - Travis Cloke 24. Diggler - Taylor Walker 25. Harps - Andrew Swallow 26. Theo - Kurt Tippett 27. Jager - Cyril Rioli 28. Nino - Nick Riewoldt 29. Oz - Joshua J. Kennedy 30. Morgie - Bryce Gibbs 31. Brett - Drew Petrie 32. Jabba - Jarryd Roughead Best Picks: Jarryd Roughead @32 - Jabba: Grabbing a Key Position player who can take backup ruck minutes is so, so important. The last thing someone will want is a fatigued ruck playing 80, a shit backup ruck or having someone not very good having to take backup ruck minutes. Jabba's nailed the perfect 2nd ruck and it'll save him the bench spot + Roughead's a premier key forward, plus his key defense rating will be high as well so he's versatile Andrew Swallow @25 - Harps: A close second, Swallow's a gun. Best tackler around and provides elite supply, good disposal, awesome work ethic and serious grunt. A great staple. HMs to Beams (doubts about backing it up prevent his inclusion above) and Fyfe (who got the most brownlow votes per game and provides a brilliant and composed link up option in the middle. probably the most unique mid so it's a risk/reward) Worst picks: Luke Hodge @22 - Shagger: He's old, he's shown signs of decline and he's not in the elite group of midfielders, possibly not even the 2nd group. His injury proneness should have seen him slide to the 4th or 5th round at least
Round 3: 33. Masters - Brett Deledio 34. MightyPies/Heef - Dean Cox 35. Mousey/Teacups - Mitch Clark 36. Benny - Zac Smith 37. Skippos - Rory Sloane 38. Shagger - Aaron Sandilands 39. Jimmy_c8 - Ivan Maric 40. Diggler - Sam Jacobs 41. Harps - Todd Goldstein 42. Theo - Matthew Kreuzer 43. Jager - Jimmy Bartel 44. Nino - Ben McEvoy 45. Oz - Shane Mumford 46. Morgie - Will Minson 47. Brett - Matthew Leuenberger 48. Jabba - Steele Sidebottom Best: A few guns here. Mitch Clark is a quality forward option + ruck, and Mumford is (IMO) a fair bit better than a few rucks taken before him. And while Cox is getting older, he is still probably the best ruck in the competition, and getting him in Rd 3 is a great piece of work. So my vote goes to Dean Cox. Worst: Zac Smith. Although he is young and had a good 2011, he hasn't really been the same since, and there were plenty of better rucks picked this round. To take him early in Rd 3 feels like a waste. Honorable Mention to Steele Sidebottom. Yes he is young but he hasn't done that much in his career, and there were better mids still available. Also, Masters picking up Deledio feels like a waste given he already had two perfectly good mids, as good as he is.
He had 26 disposals sits him at the bottom end of the next tier after elite disposers He had 15 kicks sitting him in the next tier after the elite kick alot people and 5.5 marks notsure if this is good for a midfielder, thought mainly backs and forwards got alot of these and he is super duper young which should only suggest he improves alot AM I DOING IT RIGHT? Doesn't seem like a bad pick up to me untrained eye
Probably would've taken Tippett first. He's a fair bit younger than Clark and plays for a more professional club.
Jabba, as ruthless on morgie as this sounds he was primarily a league fan and I still think he's getting up to scratch with the game since really becoming hardcore afl. His input is valued and often correct but it's also got a good chance of being wrong due to inexperience. Sidebottom was an excellent pick. Jetta, not so much.
I'd have gone Tippett because he's a goalscorer. Clark's a ruckman. He's got the versatility but what people have to remember is that he made the name for himself in '09 as a 21 year old playing full time ruck while Leuenberger and Charman were injured. He averaged 16 touches, 6 marks, 4 tackles and 22 hitouts a game - fucking good for a ruck. Nabbed 10 brownlow votes too. The next season Leuenberger was back and the better ruck. Clark was a gun but his mobility, marking and movement lent itself to both CHB and FF more than a pure ruck. Next season he played all over the shop, 1/2 at FF and 1/2 at CHB and played second ruck. Struggled big time at FF though, 15 touches, 5 marks, 2.5 tackles, 0.5 goals, 11 hitouts a game, a serious difference. '2011 he played FF the whole season and averaged 14 touches, 5 marks, 1.6 goals, 2 tackles and 5 hitouts a game. To be honest, for a fella who got the 2nd defender all year and had the whole forward line to himself, that output's pretty fucking awful. Looked out of sorts, moved to Melbourne and clicked a bit more in '12, 12.5 touches, 5 marks, 2.6 goals, 2 tackles and 4 hitouts a game. In short, Clark's really only had one season where he's been a genuinely good key forward, 2012. He had all the supply too, I'd say more kicks inside 50 were directed at him than anyone in the AFL per game. I still consider him a ruckman; he's best as a ruckman, he's performed as a ruckman, he made a name for himself as a ruckman. He's just disadvantaged by the fact that he *can* play forward and with the new sub rules 2 rucks is pointless so a FWD/Ruck in the Roughead/Tippett/Lynch/Ryder/Vickery/Kozi/Cordy kind of mold is perfect, and the AFL is going through a key forward shortage and good ruckman overload. Stef Martin falls into the same boat, made his name as a ruckman while Jamar was injured and due to his movement he now switches between CHF/CHB despite being average at both. Ryder's the same - a far better ruck than KPF but has to play there. Tippett's actually a genuine forward. He knows how to do it, he's been trained - not converted over a pre season. Don't underrate that. I'd prefer him. Although I'd recommend to the owner of Clark that he'll have a better rating as a ruck - it's just whether you'd prefer to play him in his best spot or where he's better than everyone else (specialty position i.e. why he/ryder/martin play fwd now). This database assesses capabilities, not actions. You coach the players, so why should you be restricted and have to play Jordan Roughead at FB when he's a capable ruck if you want him there because McCartney plays him at FB. You guys are the coaches so you decide how to use the players skillset, and Clark's is better equipped for rucking.
