Round 6 81. Jabba - Luke Breust 82. Brett - Beau Waters 83. Morgie - Jack Redden 84. Paulfromoz - Matt Priddis 85. Nino - Troy Chaplin 86. Jager - Will Schofeild 87. Theo - Luke Shuey 88. Harps - Andrew Gaff 89. Diggler - Jake Carlisle 90. Jimmy_C8 - Travis Boak 91. Shagger - Josh Gibson 92. Skippos - Alex Rance 93. Benny - Tyrone Vickery 94. Mousey/Teacups - Jack Gunston 95. MightyPies/Heef - Chris Masten 96. Masters - Michael Jamison Best: Gonna give this a tie between Carlisle, Rance and Jamison. Those + Chaplin were definitely the best KPD left so nabbing them now was a great move. Chaplin just misses out due to the upside of the other two. Worst: Gonna have to go Schofield. There were about 12 KPD left far better. Schofield's offensive game is lacking while his defensive game isn't great. Has one-two good games a season and that's in. Only reason he plays over Brown is he's versatile in playing on smalls v talls. Harsh, but fair IMO. Masten a close second in this.
Round 7: 113. Jabba - Chris Mayne 114. Brett - Heath Shaw 115. Morgie - Jarrad Waite 116. Paulfromoz - Pearce Hanley 117. Nino - Lachie Hansen 118. Jager - Sam Day 119. Theo - Nathan Foley 120. Harps - Sam Reid 121. Diggler - Stephen Hill 122. Jimmy_C8 - Dyson Heppell 123. Shagger - David Zaharakis 124. Skippos - Hamish Hartlett 125. Benny - Zac Dawsom 126. Jager - Ryan Schoenmakers 127. MightyPies/Heef - Daniel Rich 128. Masters - Josh Jenkins Best: As the rounds continue, more and more picks are 'steals' so it gets harder to decide. Sam Reid was a great pick - shown a lot, young KPF with runs on the board and slid. Heppell & Hartlett and to a lesser extent Hanley are great talents who provide service from the HBF too. Day unlucky to miss out but he just doesn't have the record yet. Probably Heppell, to be honest Worst: Gonna have to go with Dawson here. He's got the defensive pressure of a witches hat and no offensive game. While he's improved, he's still a shit, shit cunt.
He virtually never takes the key forward. He's done it with the riewoldts and roughead due to injury/wce staff thinking he's a better matchup for them but it's normal that he takes a small Higgins, Clark, Tomlinson, Whitecross, JRiewoldt, NRiewoldt, Cornelius, AWalker, Robinson, Hansen, McGlynn, Jenkins, Hawksley, Bradley, Murdoch, Brett Ebert, Goldsack, Ja. Roughead, Tarrant, Goldsack, Sinclair, Murdoch, Ja. Roughead, N. Jetta In chronological order, first is '12, last is '13. When he takes the key forward it's either due to injury or matchup being better (he takes roughead because he's the 2nd forward and in terms of matchups due to Hale being there it's really a much of a much who takes who). He's either on the 'resting ruck' sort in Jenkins, Tomlinson, Bradley - the third tall sort in Goldsack, Cornelius and Tarrant or a small. He's primarily a small defender in terms of matchups and lucky to grab key status for mine. I just don't think he's very good in terms of defense or offense. At 196 and 94 the fact that he rarely gets a key forward is a reflection on him, IMO.
Yeah not buying into the richmond bias. There's always been something to work with in foley. Looked like he was gonna be a real go-er in '07 but then '08 and '09 were worse. The full season he played in '11 wasn't his best and that's mostly what I'd judge him on - he wasn't great, or elite. Based on that he'd be a shit pick. '12 he was pretty bloody good but he only played a half season and his 'greatness' came from a 6-7 match run before his injury - and I'm not going to use a 6-7 match sample to say he's elite when really it could just be a purple patch. I'd have had him close to the middle/bottom of that round.
Round 9 129. Masters - Danyle Pearce 130. MightyPies/Heef - Sharrod Wellingham 131. Mousey/Teacups - Shannon Hurn 132. Benny - Michael Barlow 133. Skippos - Chris Dawes 134. Shagger - Shaun Grigg 135. Jimmy_c8 - Andrew Walker 136. Diggler - Jaeger O'Meara 137. Harps - Robbie Gray 138. Theo - Bachar Houli 139. Mousey - Jonathan Brown 140. Nino - Matt Suckling 141. Oz - Jack Grimes 142. Morgie - Scott D Thompson 143. Brett - David Mundy 144. Jabba - Jarrad McVeigh Best: Probably Morgie for grabbing a good KPD at this stage. Hurn was a fucking cracker of a pick too, while Grimes, Barlow and Suckling were all good ones. Walker shapes up to be a value pick if he continues the way he is and Dawes if he harnesses his potential could be one of the picks of the draft given the value of forwards. Worst: There weren't many bad ones here. O'Meara probably has to get it unfortunately because despite the amazing potential, he's really not good enough right now for a 9th pick. Probably not good enough to make most teams 22s in this. Wellingham's not a great one either, stock standard midfielder who's done nothing really, a few good games and a few good tags. That's it. Grigg wasn't great either given the better mids available but wasn't a 'bad' pick'
He's definitely not as soft but yeah, agree he > heppell at best in the middle. But age works well in heps favour, as does potential upside. Plus, I'm judging Heppell as a back flanker. Not a mid. Given Hep's got a specialty position it tips it well in his favour.
Fair enough, was talking in terms of mid vs mid. You'll all be talking about how right I was when he's back soon.
