    about the broadcast of NRL

    I've just read that the season opener won't be aired live in Qld?

    Then that just reminds me of the joke that is the second Friday night game + the Sunday afternoon game.

    What a fucking joke.

    I honestly can't think of another real major sport in this country where you can't watch every game live.

    Basically, 4 games a week on 7/7mate, the rest on Fox Footy. All of which are live. In the event of clashes, one game is aired on 7/7mate and one on Fox Footy.

    The episode of the block that airs on Thursdays has been moved to Wednesdays and Channel 9 are still claiming it will be Live Thursday night Footy.

    The reality is that the NRL don't actually care about the true league fans. All that the NRL care about is getting the most cash from the broadcast deal.

    And the broadcaster's know that they can treat the true fan like shit as they'll watch regardless and the people that aren't diehard fans will watch without knowing it's not live/ not caring. So therefore it makes no sense for them to not delay telecasts to maximise profit.

    The reality is Channel 9 had a clause written into their last contract that gave them the last reply on the negotiations. Has nothing to do with whether you think the NRL care about you or not.

    CH9 Sunday Arvo footy ratings were down last year and largely accredited to (illegal) online streaming, so hopefully that trend continues and forces CH9 to finally deliver some live coverage of the Sunday arvo game but reality is we're still paying for a crap TV deal struck half a decade ago and will continue to for some time.

    It's more likely they'll pay off or coerce overseas broadcasters to delay their coverage as well, therefore nullifying the streams.

    But yeah, the NRL administration are so far behind the eight ball it's not funny. Everyone knew nine were going to pull this kind of shit. Last deal, they flat out reneged on half the shit in their contract.

    I used to get angry about this stuff but these days I don't. The coverage still starts at 7.30 and the game 15 or 20 minutes after that. What's the big deal?

    I mean yeah ideally I'd prefer for it to be live but I don't really give a shit. You may think this is my lack of die-hard support for club footy but not so - this is true for me even of Origin. If a game played in NSW started at 6.30pm QLD time and they didn't show here it until the prime time 7.30 slot, I honestly wouldn't care. I care about the result and what happens in the game. As long as it's shown at a reasonable hour, which is certainly is, I'm not gonna complain.

    KK's gripe is a genuine one. Seems to me ours just sound like fwp.
